So why Aquaponics ?
  • Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture (the fastest growing sector of agriculture) and hydroponics (soil-less pant culture).
  • Aquaponics can be done anywhere, meeting the growing demand for fresh, local vegetables and fish in our cities and urban areas.
  • Crops are grown with less water and less labour, and are free from pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers.
  • Aquaponics is sustainable and can be profitable so its is the farming of the future TODAY.

We have built each of these courses as a series of modules that will allow you to get the specific information and hands on experience that will equip you to start your own project.

Urbanag Courses

There are three methods by which Urbanag deliver training courses, and by offering this variety of ways we hope we can accommodate individual and group needs.

The first method and one we think perhaps the most important is by developing training programmes based on community's needs. If your group is seeking to develop a project, say for example to set up an aquaponic system at the community centre, and thinks it needs training to be able to realise the idea we can design training programmes suit. In other words you come to us with training requests which we can then provide support for. This can include should it be needed assistance in gaining the funds to do the project and training. This method has been very successful for a number of groups.

The second way is for Urbanag to get funding that allows us to lay on training programmes, usually free of charge. Again this method has led to a number of successful programmes being delivered although such funding is harder to come by today than it has been in the past. We will of course any such programmes on our website and through social media as well as through the sites of those organisations who support and promote our work.

The third way is courses which we hope will attract people who have the resources to cover there costs for attendance. Because we want to keep charges to a minimum we can only run these courses if we get a minimum number of learners. In order to gain recruits we seek to be a flexible as possible in the times, venues etc. for these courses.

Finally although not training as such we do know that groups have used our publications, a list is given elsewhere on this site, to train themselves. If you let us know what other publications you think we should consider publishing please let us know for although we cant guarantee publication we are always mindful of peoples needs and try to respond accordingly.
